Bourn Building

The six-storey, multi-let office underwent a £9m refurbishment – transforming into a premium Grade A commercial space for modern, forward-thinking businesses.

CPW completed a full M&E strip out and replacement. Sustainability, community and wellbeing were at the heart of the brief. During the design stage, collaborative spaces were embedded throughout the 91,897 sq ft net zero ready building and MEP services were designed from the outset with integration in mind, incorporating the Smart Spaces software.

One Eastside

Formerly a chemical engineering teaching facility for Birmingham Metropolitan College, One Eastside is a landmark regeneration of a brownfield site vacant for many years.

CPW was awarded the contract to deliver MEP services and advise on sustainable approaches for the 51-storey building, with a total height of 155.1 metres, building on CPW’s experience with tall residential builds. Across two towers, the development provides 667 high-quality city centre homes alongside a host of residential amenity spaces, ranging from flexible workspaces, gyms, a cinema and Birmingham’s highest bar, sky lounge and terrace.

Frequently asked questions

  • Public health engineering is the design of systems for sanitation. Any water in your building needs to be managed, whether that’s ensuring rainwater drains efficiently, foul and waste water systems are designed effectively, or reuse strategies are well thought through. This ensures that buildings are safe, hygienic and maximise user comfort.

  • Public health engineers help clients to make better use of water in their developments by designing strategies for water management, whether that’s water for operational use, drainage or conservation. Public health engineers work closely with Mechanical and Electrical engineers to provide integrated and efficient building services, while working with the wider design team to ensure our systems align with the final design.

  • Well-designed water management systems help to save water and reuse if effectively. As ‘water neutral’ becomes the new ‘net zero carbon’, it’s more important than ever to limit water consumption and find innovative solutions to reuse and recycle the water that you do use. CPW can create efficient, hygienic and sustainable solutions for water management.
