Lloyd House, West Midlands Police HQ

Client: West Midlands Police

Our Approach

We were involved on the major refurbishment of this antiquated facility with a very low DEC rating, which was in dire need of modernisation.

The project is a new HQ centre for West Midlands Police in Birmingham city centre. The design transformed the building from being inefficient with a DEC G rating to an elegant, sustainable and modern development people were proud to work from.

To address major occupant dissatisfaction, we recommended an air permeability test which found that existing levels were above acceptable levels as specified in the current Building Regulations.

Reducing the amount of heat and cooling escaping the building become a key design priority; we proposed a chilled beam solution that maximises thermal comfort and control.

In addition, a low energy, dimmable and sensor driven LED panel and control scheme was installed to address the client’s need to meet occupant requirements.
