This new, 10,000m² building offers facilities for a wide range of vocational training opportunities. Learning pods for each area of the curriculum have been built along with a small library and computer facilities.
The new structure uses its heavyweight mass to stabilise fluctuations in temperature, coupled with an optimised building fabric.
The campus achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating, and includes rainwater harvesting together with 20% on-site energy renewables through a biomass boiler and photovoltaic panels.
In addition, a mixed-mode ventilation system has been employed to maximise the use of natural ventilation using openings in the building envelope, with potential boosted extract during peak summer time, and mechanical ventilation during colder months.
