Project value: £35m

This project heralded the development of a new University Library situated at the heart of the campus which utilises modern
technology more efficiently in order to meet the changing needs of staff and students alike, as well as offering an important
community resource for local schools and residents. Stakeholder engagement during the design period saw a brief developed
that was heavily focused on the end user and provided intuitive and natural circulation, with a cafe and exhibition/events space incorporated into the design to enhance the end user experience and confirm the library as a diverse, multipurpose facility.

Sustainability formed one of the project’s principle objectives – with both EPC A and BREEAM ‘Excellent’ targeted – as the University aspired for the new library to be 50% more energy efficient than
its predecessor as well as a contributor to its 20% C02 reduction target (2020).
