The reception building centre for the innovation farm sits within NIAB’s farmland site to the north of Cambridge, forming a focus for the recently developed site.

The building uses PassivHaus principles to reduce the energy demand to the lowest practical level. The residual carbon emissions are offset by a large roof mounted PV array and by tapping into the local biomass boiler which serves the research glasshouses.

The building has been designed to work using passive stack ventilation which is enhanced automatically during periods of peak occupancy by low power fans which will be energised if the comfort conditions dictate.
