The project involved the relocation of existing college buildings into a new, innovative, environmentally sound building, approx. 15,000m², built on a brownfield site.
The city centre location, adjacent the ring road, meant that natural ventilation due to noise and air quality issues was unsuitable. These issues were overcome with a low energy strategy utilising heavy weight exposed structures, high insulation levels and night purging.
The sports facility includes low NOx boilers for the heating to a combination of underfloor heating, radiators and radiant panels which are mounted at high level to maintain the clearances in the space for the sporting activities.
